Giovanni: A Timeless Display Font for Branding and Design

As a small business owner who recently needed to refresh the look of my boutique’s product tags, I was looking for a font that could elevate the brand without feeling too modern or too outdated. That’s when I discovered Giovanni, a retro-looking display font that immediately caught my eye. It’s not just another pretty typeface—it’s a versatile tool that can transform how a brand is perceived, from packaging to social media graphics.

Giovanni for Product Tags and Boutique Branding

I chose Giovanni for the new product tags in my boutique because it has a classic yet approachable feel that aligns with our brand’s aesthetic. The font’s retro charm adds character without overpowering the message, making it ideal for short phrases like “Handmade with Love” or “Ethically Sourced.” Its clean lines and slightly stylized curves give it a sense of personality that feels authentic to a small business.

When designing the tags, I used Giovanni as the primary text and paired it with a simple sans serif font for the product name. This combination created a balance between elegance and readability. The result was a set of tags that felt both professional and personal—perfect for connecting with customers on a deeper level.

Giovanni for Menus and Café Branding

A few months later, I had the opportunity to help a local café refresh their menu design. They wanted something that would stand out on their printed menus and digital ads but still maintain a sense of warmth and approachability. Giovanni was an excellent fit for this project.

Used as the headline font for each menu item, Giovanni brought a vintage flair that complemented the café’s cozy atmosphere. Its bold, rounded shapes made the text feel inviting, while its consistent weight ensured that every item was legible at a glance. For the price listings, I paired it with a clean, modern sans serif font to keep the overall design balanced and easy to read.

The final result was a menu that felt both stylish and functional, helping the café make a stronger impression on both regular and new customers.

Giovanni for Social Media Graphics and Online Shop Banners

In today’s digital-first world, having a strong visual identity across all platforms is essential. When I started creating Instagram templates for my boutique, I knew I needed a font that would work well on smaller screens and mobile devices. Giovanni proved to be a great choice.

I used it for headlines and promotional text, ensuring that the messaging stood out against the background. Its retro look added a touch of nostalgia that resonated with my audience, making the content feel more relatable and trustworthy. Pairing it with a minimalist sans serif font for body text helped maintain clarity and focus.

One of the most effective uses of Giovanni was in the shop banners. It worked beautifully as a decorative accent, drawing the eye to key information without overwhelming the viewer. Whether it was for a seasonal promotion or a new product launch, Giovanni consistently delivered a polished and memorable visual impact.

Giovanni for Thank-You Cards and Customer Engagement

Another area where Giovanni shone was in the design of thank-you cards for customer appreciation. These cards needed to feel personal and heartfelt, yet still maintain a professional edge. Giovanni provided the perfect balance.

I used it for the main message, letting its friendly and approachable style reflect the gratitude we wanted to convey. For the address and contact details, I paired it with a simpler, more readable font. The result was a card that felt warm, genuine, and aligned with the brand’s values.

Customers responded positively to the new design, and many commented on how much it reflected the care and attention we put into our products. It was a small change that made a big difference in how the brand was perceived.

Giovanni for Logo Design and Brand Identity

While Giovanni is best suited for display purposes, it also works well in logo design when used thoughtfully. I’ve seen it used effectively in logos for small businesses that want to convey a sense of history and authenticity.

For example, a local bakery used Giovanni as the primary text in their logo, pairing it with a hand-drawn icon to create a cohesive and memorable brand identity. The font’s retro feel complemented the vintage-style packaging and gave the brand a distinct personality that set it apart from competitors.

When using Giovanni in logos, it’s important to consider the size and context. It works best for headlines, short phrases, or decorative elements rather than long blocks of text. Always test it on different backgrounds and sizes to ensure it remains legible and impactful.

Before using any font in client work or commercial projects, I recommend checking the included styles, file formats, and licensing options. Giovanni offers a range of weights and alternates, making it a flexible choice for various design needs.
